Preaching & Teaching
One of my key ministry gifts and callings, is Preaching and Teaching. Although I often know God is leading my Preaching & Teaching in specific directions, in and out of season, I love working on join initiatives and ministry themes etc. When appropriate, I am a very collaborative person.
What are some of the main focuses for my Preaching & Teaching Ministry:
1. Completing one's ministry faithfully to the end is admirable and should be the desire of every Christian Leader. However, there is more to a Christian Preaching & Teaching Ministry than merely that which one does oneself. We should always aim to equip the saints for their own, individual and corporate ministries. This involves, cultivating, training and developing people to become Christian Leaders in there own right. We should mentor through our ministry, people and leaders of the next generation who will be faithful to the gospel that has been entrusted to them, and who will pass it on to the leaders of their generation after them. This is not only sound bibilical practice, but because of my professional career as a 'Secondary School Art Teacher', links to my career training. As a professional teacher, I was tasked with educating and developing young people into adults, ready for there own lives, families and careers of the future.
2. Although one of our primary roles is seeing people come to salvation through faith in Jesus. We should not be content with that as our sole objective. The bible askes us "To Make Disciples". So, salvation should be seen as the starting point of a persons faith experience. Guiding, teaching and emparting learning from the bible about a persons whole life needs, and helping them become disciples is a key biblical task. Although there can be times when people need 'Milk not Solid Food' as noted in 1 Corinthians 3:2, we should endevour the move people on from such needs. And developing on from this, as stated in, Hebrews 5:14 - we should train people to digest the solid food of scripture as soon as possible - "But solid food is for the mature, who because of practice have there senses trained to discern good and evil". This then leads onto preparing them for living righteous lives, and service for God themselves - Colossians 1:28, 'We proclaim Him, admonishing every man and teaching every man in all wisdom, so that we may present every man complete in Christ'.
That is a very brief summary of two of the main objectives of my Preaching & Teaching Ministry.
